Open Enrollment Process

To request a school other than your boundary school for 2019-2020, parents must complete an open enrollment application (sent home with students the week of January 7, 2019) and return it to your school’s front office by Friday, Jan. 25, 2019.

● Open enrollment requests will be considered by each individual school.

● Open enrollment is not guaranteed.

● Notification of acceptance will be provided by mid-February.

● Approval to attend a school in an area other than that of the student’s “current school” will, in effect, change the student’s “school of record” to that of the school for which open enrollment is granted.

● Transportation to and from school will not be provided for open enrolled students.

● Open-enrolled students may not return to his/her original school or any other Weld RE-4 school without once again applying for open enrollment during the regular open enrollment window for the next school year.

● The open enrollment applications are processed in accordance with Policy JFBB and JFBB-R.

● Approved open enrollment application will be valid for attendance at that school throughout the grades served by the school level. Families must reapply (at the end of elementary and middle school) for open enrollment to the next level.

● Approved open enrollment (for one level, e.g. elementary or middle or high school) does not guarantee an approved open enrollment at any other level. However, per policy, permission may be rescinded annually if the school’s growth in enrollment results in inadequate space, resources, or undesirable conditions develop.

High School Only Note: High-school students who open enroll may be required to forfeit one year’s varsity eligibility for participation in interscholastic activities and athletics, as determined by the rules and regulations of the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSSA).
