Amy Heinsma, Director of Instruction

Amy Heinsma has been the Director of Instruction since 2010. Amy is responsible for preschool through 12th grade coordination of all instruction programs in the district that include development and revision of standards, curriculum development, assessment and reporting student achievement, and alignment of instructional practice to district and state assessments in accordance with the school board’s objectives and policies. Amy also coordinates and provides achievement data and assists principals and the superintendent in implementation of district accreditation plan consistent with the Board of Education policies and procedures.

Amy is a resource to building principals in the selection of textbooks and supplementary instructional materials used in the district to provide desired program continuity and alignment with standards and assessments of the district. Amy is the District Accountability Committee Liaison, District Assessment Coordinator, and the Colorado Evaluator Trainer for the Weld RE-4 School District. Prior to her current position with Weld RE-4 School District, Amy taught at Windsor Middle School, 7th grade English for 13 years. Amy has a bachelor’s degree in English and an EdS in Educational Leadership from the University of Northern Colorado as well as a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Scranton. Amy and her family reside in Windsor.

Jackie Hertzke, Professional Learning Coordinator

Jackie Hertzke is the District Professional Learning Coordinator.  Jackie provides, coordinates, and supports Professional Learning, Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Title I, and Induction for new educators, special service providers, and leaders. Jackie is also the elementary summer school administrator for CAMP IGNITE.  Jackie is a lifelong resident of Windsor and is proud to be a Windsor Wizard. Prior to her current job at the district office, Jackie has taught at Skyview Elementary School of STEM, Mountain View Elementary, and Windsor Middle School. Jackie has a bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing from UNC, teacher licensure in K-6 Elementary and Distributive Education from CSU, a master’s degree in Special Education from UNC, and an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from UNC. Jackie has taught at Colorado Christian University to post-bachelor students.  Jackie is married to Jeff and is the mom to Gabbie and Nolan.

Valerie Hubert, Assessment Specialist

Valerie Hubert is the Assessment Specialist for the Department of Instruction and Curriculum. She is also our District Assessment Coordinator for Weld RE-4. She is the point person for all district and state assessments within our district. Valerie has been with us for 10 years. She has extensive bookkeeping experience and is highly qualified through Aims Community College. She is a resident of Windsor and is the mother of two Windsor graduates, Alex and Sarah. 

Adele Lind-Nichols, Department Secretary

Adele Lind-Nichols is the Secretary for the Department of Instruction. Adele is a native of Severance, CO and Weld RE-4 alumna.  Adele supports all of our 30 plus data systems, roster student information, assessment, and is the district registrar for professional learning opportunities. Adele graduated with a bachelors degree in Animal Science and Ag Business from Colorado State University. She has two children in the RE-4 district and her husband, Lance, co-manages the family farm and family owned auction company. 

Emily Williams, TOSA for Instruction

Emily Williams moved to Windsor in 2006 with her family. Emily graduated from University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1990 with her bachelor’s degree in special education. Emily then earned a master’s degree in Curriculum Leadership with an emphasis on Educational Admin from the University of Denver. Emily has been a special education teacher for the past 25 years teaching in Cherry Creek and Steamboat prior to Windsor. Emily’s current role in Windsor is TOSA for the Department of Instruction. Emily works directly with elementary teachers specifically in ELA to improve student achievement. Emily also partners with teachers, k-12, for instructional coaching cycles to boost student performance.  Research and curation of ELA materials is part of her role. She also supports schools during state assessment time.  In her spare time, Emily teaches an undergraduate class at the University of Northern Colorado to teacher candidates.

Laurel Syring, Secondary TOSA for Instruction

Laurel is a TOSA (Teacher on Special Assignment) in the Department of Instruction focusing on our secondary schools. Laurel has lived in Windsor for the past six years but has lived in the Northern Colorado area since 2001 when she began her undergraduate degree at the University of Northern Colorado. After graduation in 2005, she began her career at a private school in Greeley teaching middle school and high school English. From there she earned her master’s degree in Elementary Education from Liberty University and began working in literacy and math intervention at Skyview School of STEM. Her past five years in the classroom have been at Windsor High School in their English department. When Laurel is not supporting our high schools, you can find her spending time outdoors with her husband and son.

Michelle Smith, Career & Technical Education Coordinator and
Community Partnerships Coordinator

Michelle began teaching at Windsor High School in 2005 and has been teaching Business Education classes since 1999. Classes Michelle has taught are:  Introduction to Business, Business Management, Introduction to Marketing , and Career Development.  Michelle recently joined the Instruction team at the district office as the Career & Technical Education Coordinator and the Community Partnerships Coordinator.  Michelle is responsible for coordinating the Cooperative Office Education and On-The-Job Training programs for Weld RE-4.
